Ices Plain & Fancy

The science behind Ices Plain & Fancy isn’t new, but that doesn’t make it any less cool. When you order ice cream at this parlor that opened in 2014 in the Shaw neighborhood, an employee makes it to order by freezing the cream with superchilled liquid nitrogen. This isn’t a gimmick. The resulting ice cream is incredibly smooth. The everyday menu of flavors isn’t long, but there are seasonal specials as well as ice cream blended with Sump Coffee and, for the grown-up kids, booze-spiked ices.
