Reena S. Hayashi, 48, is facing felony charges of concealment of a death and obstruction of justice in connection with the death of her mother, Karen Hayashi, 80, whose body was discovered by officers in the home the two shared in the 200 block of Oxford Avenue, according to Fairview Heights police. Reena Hayashi originally told police her mother had moved to Hawaii before they searched the home and found the body in a closed bedroom surrounded by air fresheners, Mueller said. “We’re still trying to figure out when she died, but her body had been there well over a year,” Mueller said.
