Moy'e Elkins

Moy'e Elkins, 30, was shot at the BP gas station at 3520 Natural Bridge Avenue in north St. Louis. He died at a hospital. Daevone Austin, 23, later admitted to killing Elkins. He told police that he and Elkins had gotten into an argument months earlier, so he shot him when he saw him inside the gas station. Austin pleaded guilty to killing Elkins and was sentenced to 24 years in prison — 21 for pleading guilty to second-degree murder, and three for pleading guilty to armed criminal action. In 2024, Elkins' mother sued the gas station, on the edge of the city's Greater Ville and Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhoods, claiming it has become a hub for crime in recent years. Austin, 21 at the time of the shooting, had fired a gun inside the store several months before the shooting, the suit claims. But he was allowed back inside on the day he killed Elkins anyway.
