Prosecutors charged a man with running from police and causing a fatal crash in 2022 along Martin Luther King Drive in north St. Louis. Darion L. Brooks, 28, of St. Louis, is facing charges of second-degree murder, resisting arrest and armed criminal action in the death of 59-year-old Andre Adams. Charges say police tried to stop a blue Ford Taurus that ran a stop sign at Kennerly Avenue and Goodfellow Boulevard on Aug. 27, 2022, but the driver fled, speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. Eventually, the car stopped in the 5100 block of Martin Luther King Drive. The driver ran away but was eventually stopped by police, according to charging documents. A man was lying, motionless, near the car. He was taken to a hospital where he died. "My life is over," Brooks told police, according to court documents. "I just killed someone. I don't even know why I didn't stop." Brooks was charged with felony murder, which means he is accused of killing someone while committing another felony — resisting arrest. He was ordered to be held without bond.
