Austin M. Evans-Blakey

Austin M. Evans-Blakey, 25, was killed and two men were wounded when they apparently interrupted a burglary at a home in St. Clair County on June 2. Police arrived at the 9300 block of Golden Rule Mine Road near New Athens where they found Evans-Blakey fatally shot. Two other men who were wounded were taken to a hospital and were reported later to be in stable condition. Authorities later charged two men with first-degree murder in the case. Michael Johnson, of East Carondelet, and Martin Morrison, of Cahokia Heights, both 43, were arrested this week after a St. Louis Major Case Squad investigation, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department. In addition, Johnson faces two charges for aggravated battery with a firearm. Morrison faces charges for drug possession and residential burglary. A lab analysis is pending, authorities said, and additional charges could be filed.
