Darrell Carter Jones Jr.

Darrell Carter Jones Jr., 27, was shot and killed by a friend after they got into an argument on their way home from a night club in Sauget. Darrell Jones was driving Laveal D. Jones II back to the city, but they got into an argument about money. They started fighting, and Laveal Jones, who was on parole for a robbery conviction, grabbed his friend's gun and shot him twice. Laveal Jones left Darrell Jones' body in the 3000 block of Walton Place after stripping him naked to hide physical evidence. Laveal Jones then drove his friend's car to East St. Louis where he set his car on fire. Laveal Jones was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in federal prison in May 2024. In court, the family of Darrell Jones said he was a gentle, loving man who was an entrepreneur and fashion designer. Laveal Jones apologized for his crimes. "It was wrong," he said.
