Jeffery Cook, 60, was shot inside a home Saturday in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. Cook, who lived in the 2800 block of Chariton Street, was found on the floor of a home on Chariton about 2:15 p.m. Saturday. He was shot while arguing with a 30-year-old man, police said. Cook was taken to a hospital, where he died the same day. In 2024, Joshua D. Jackson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the case. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison. As part of an agreement, prosecutors reduced a first-degree murder charge and dismissed four other felonies.
