Jerry McCulley

Prosecutors charged a man in 2024 with holding two people at gunpoint and fatally shooting one of them during an attempted robbery in a north St. Louis home two years ago. Jimmie Spann, 58, is facing nine felonies, including first-degree murder, in the shooting death of 29-year-old Jerry McCulley at a home in the 1100 block of Aubert Avenue in the city's Fountain Park neighborhood. Charges said Spann walked into the home on Nov. 16, 2022, demanded property from McCulley and then shot him. Spann then pointed his gun at a another person who was in the house and forced them to go through McCulley's pockets, charges say. Spann led the second person outside at gunpoint, but that person was eventually able to get away. Investigators spoke with two witnesses at the scene and also reviewed Spann's phone records, which showed he was in the area at the time of the shooting, charges say. Spann is facing charges of murder, armed criminal action, attempted robbery, kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.
