Laruth Jones

Prosecutors say Laruth Jones, 34, was shot and killed outside of a market in Riverview by a man who took her car as part of a carjacking spree. Loyse Dozier III, 22, fatally shot Montez Haines, 38, in 2022 in St. Louis and then took his car, according to charges filed in December 2024. Seventeen hours later, he killed Jones while stealing her car in Riverview. It was part of a carjacking spree that prosecutors say lasted several weeks in the summer of 2022. In addition to shooting Jones and Haines, prosecutors said, Dozier also shot a woman twice in the leg and pointed his gun at her head before running away. Surveillance video from July 9, 2022 showed Dozier shooting Haines in the 4200 block of North Grand Boulevard, charges say. Dozier then stole Haines' car keys and drove away. The next day, at around 5 p.m., Dozier confronted Jones outside of the Raqqa Mart on Chambers Road in Riverview. Jones pulled out her own gun, and the two fired shots at each other. Dozier struck Jones and killed her. He then took Jones' gun and drove away in her car, which was later found burning in an alley at East Linton Avenue and Emily Street in the city. Dozier pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for the previous carjackings.
