A man was shot and later died on Tuesday in the city's Penrose neighborhood. Calvin Kelly, 20, was shot in the head just after 3 p.m. in the 4200 block of Shreve Avenue, police said. He was taken to a hospital but died about five hours later. Police said Kelly lived on Shreve Avenue just a few blocks from where he was found. Tabari Freeman, 17, was later charged as an adult with Kelly's murder. Freeman was taken into custody for the shooting, but on Feb. 3 escaped the juvenile detention facility at 3847 Enright Ave. Authorities did not identify him at the time because he was a minor. By Feb. 27, the teen was back in custody. And in April, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore filed second-degree murder and first-degree assault charges, plus two counts of armed criminal action against Freeman.
