Joshua Harris

Joshua Harris, 41, was shot to death at his Clayton apartment in the 7500 block of Wydown Boulevard just before 5:30 a.m. Monday. His killing is the first homicide in Clayton in 17 years. The St. Louis County medical examiner's office identified Harris on Tuesday through his fingerprints. Neighbors said Harris had a wife and child and recently moved to the apartment complex in the Moorlands neighborhood of Clayton. On Tuesday, Schwartz declined to say if police had anyone in custody. Police have not indicated a possible motive for the killing or announced publicly if they think it was a random attack or if the victim was targeted. Schwartz said 25 detectives are working on the case. On Monday, neighbor Brooke Burris told the Post-Dispatch that she heard five or six gunshots outside her bedroom window, then a car sped off. Burris said she was the first to call 911. Her window overlooks a parking lot where police placed evidence markers. Clayton’s mayor, Michelle Harris, said she has confidence in her city’s police force and urged residents to have faith in the investigation. The mayor said she is not related to the man who died.
