A man has been charged with shooting and killing a man in May when a group of people tried to steal the victim’s Kia. Terry Thomas, 19, was breaking into a Kia Stinger about 8:40 p.m. on May 6 in the 5300 block of Fletcher Street when the car’s alarm went off, police wrote in court documents. The car’s owner, 36-year-old Darryl Mischeaux, confronted the group, police said. He was shot and died at a hospital. The group then drove off in the Kia and the car in which they arrived, police said in court documents. Investigators said Thomas’ cellphone data put him near the scene of the shooting, and police said they later learned Thomas destroyed his phone when he heard he was being investigated. In an interview with police, officers said Thomas told them he was involved in the shooting and there were two other people with him. Prosecutors on Friday charged Thomas with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and two counts of tampering with physical evidence. He was arrested on Thursday and remains in custody on a $750,000 cash-only bond, according to online records.
