Edward Goedde Jr., 75, was found dead Wednesday afternoon at his home on Baxter Heights Court. Prosecutors say he was killed by his son, Jeffrey M. Goedde, who faces first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges. An autopsy Thursday revealed Edward Goedde had broken bones and had been stabbed about 50 times. He also suffered blunt force trauma and strangulation. Before police discovered the body, Jeffrey Goedde went to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and said he had assaulted his father. Deputies asked him where it happened, then told Manchester police so municipal officers could check the home. Manchester police officers got in through an unlocked basement window and noticed a strong smell of bleach in the home, according to court papers. Edward Goedde was dead in the kitchen. Detectives found a knife in a kitchen trashcan near the body. Jefferson County deputies kept Jeffrey Goedde in custody in their office until Manchester confirmed the death, then turned over him over to Manchester police. Jeffrey Goedde, had caught the court’s attention months earlier for erratic and potentially dangerous behavior, documents show. He was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and paranoia, and he frightened his parents on previous occasions to the point that his father obtained a restraining order and his mother tried to have him admitted to a mental hospital. Those details are included in an emergency court action from January that allowed Goedde's mother to be designated temporarily as his guardian. Jeffrey Goedde was being held in the county jail without bond Thursday. He did not have an attorney listed in an online court file. Police gave his address as the same home on Baxter where his father died.
