George Smith

A man from the Belleville area has been charged in connection with a March homicide in Washington Park. The Illinois State Police said Steven Tiller Jr., 22, was arrested Friday. Prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Tiller is being held in the St. Clair County Jail. Police said 39-year-old George Smith was fatally shot March 29 in the 6000 block of Forest Boulevard in Washington Park. Smith, of East St. Louis, died at an area hospital.
