Police say 4-year-old Harley Hosein was the girl fatally shot this week while her young sibling was handling a gun in a north St. Louis home where no adults were present. Harley was shot shortly before midnight Monday in the 700 block of Thrush Avenue, in the city’s Baden neighborhood. She and three other children — another 4-year-old, a 9-year-old and a 10-year-old — were left on their own at the time. The girl’s mother told investigators she left to go to a store. Harley died shortly after the shooting at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She is the youngest victim to die in the city this year by gunfire, according to the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office. No one has been charged in connection with the girl’s death. Police spokesperson Mitchell McCoy said investigators are still discussing the case with the Circuit Attorney’s office.
