JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 20-year-old man on Thursday night shot and killed another man who police said was assaulting a woman. Jarvis Person, 39, died after being shot in the 800 block of Matthews Drive. Police said Person was assaulting his romantic partner when the 20-year-old intervened and shot him once. The shooter surrendered to deputies on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. The 20-year-old man knew the woman and Person before the shooting. He was in custody in the Jefferson County jail on Friday afternoon, but charges had not been filed so his identity had not been released.
