Jonathan Gagen

Jonathan Gagen, 32, was shot and killed while trying to enter a home in Collinsville. Gagen came onto the front porch of a home in the 500 block of St. Louis Road, Madison County police said. The residents did not know Gagen and told police they asked him to leave but he wouldn't. Gagen then became angry, they said. One resident went to get his gun as he continued to ask Gagen to leave. As Gagen opened the storm door to the home, police said, the resident told him he would have to shoot him if he did not leave. "In an attempt to protect his family, the resident fired one shot, which struck the subject in the chest," Madison County police wrote in a release. Gagen died at the scene. Collinsville police officers were the first to respond to the shooting, but the Madison County Sheriff's Office took over because one of the residents is a part-time employee at the Collinsville Police Department.
