A Glen Carbon man has been charged in connection with a Madison County home invasion that ended in the shooting death of his alleged accomplice, authorities said Wednesday. Wood River police Chief Brad Wells said 18-year-old Kaden W. Topal of Edwardsville was fatally shot May 16 at an apartment in the 100 block of Thompson Street. August C. Archambault, 20, of Glen Carbon, faces charges of home invasion, aggravated robbery and residential burglary. Charges allege that Topal had gone to the apartment where Archambault was staying as a guest. Archambault had set up the home invasion and robbery with Topal's help, officials said. They stole a gun from the resident, and the resident ran after Topal to get it back, authorities said. Topal struggled with the resident, and the gun went off, hitting Topal. He died at the scene.
