Mary Ann Gan

Mary Ann Gan was shot to death her 26-year-old son, James Gan, in a murder-suicide at the home they shared in Pacific, authorities said. They lived at a home on Cedar Ridge Drive in Pacific. They were discovered at the home about 1:45 p.m. Monday by Dana Gan, of High Ridge, James Gan's sister. She looked through a window and saw them on the couch dead. Police haven’t said if James Gan left a suicide note. Mary Ann Gan was 56. James was 26, the youngest of Mary Ann’s children. James served four years in the U.S. Marines, based in Virginia and Japan mostly. He became a Marine shortly after graduating high school. After he left the Marines in 2021, he came home and lived downstairs at his mother’s home. Mary Ann would tell her kids, “You never know what someone is going through, you always just need to be kind to them.” She owned Electric Tan & More in Pacific until last year. She had wanted to expand it beyond tanning and into more of a wellness boutique, her daughter said. “She just wanted people to feel OK,” Dana said. Mary Ann, who was married three times, had four biological children and three stepchildren and “was a mom to all,” Dana said. She also had 13 grandchildren. James was a small-weapons repair specialist in the Marines and later worked at a gun store in the Pacific area. He was unemployed for about the last year. He was a troubled man, his sister said, but also gentle and kind.
