Tyler Leeper, 18, was shot and killed in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of south St. Louis on May 4. Leeper, who had been shot in the chest and abdomen, was found in the street in the 4800 block of Minnesota Avenue, just before 10:30 p.m. He died at a hospital. He lived on Pinehurst Glen Court in O'Fallon, Missouri. Police later charged De'Marcus Currie, 18, one count of first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of first-degree robbery for stealing a gun. Currie lives in the 4600 block of Redfield Court, in Norwood Court. In publicly available documents, police did not identify Leeper as Currie's victim. However, Leeper was shot to death on the day and on the block identified in the documents. According to the probable cause statement, Currie admitted that he and two others set up Leeper to steal his gun. When Leeper resisted, he was shot several times with a handgun and a rifle. The statement notes that detectives searched Leeper's phone and discovered a Cash App transaction that led them to identifying Currie as a suspect. Currie and Leeper knew each other, the statement says.
