Carlos Jackson

Carlos Jackson was killed by officers near the intersection of Salisbury and North 20th streets after he refused to drop a handgun he was carrying, police said. Officers were at the intersection about 1:30 p.m. after they found a car that had been reported stolen in a carjacking earlier that morning, Maj. Janice Bockstruck said. While they were there, a car pulled up full of people, and Jackson got out and approached the stolen car. When the officers tried to speak to Jackson, Bockstruck said, he pulled out a gun and ran. They chased him into a nearby alleyway, where they ordered him to drop the gun. Shots were fired, and Jackson was hit. He died while EMS was treating him at the scene, Bockstruck said. She did not say how many officers chased the man, how many fired their weapons, whether the suspect fired his gun, or how many shots were fired. Jackson was from St. Louis, police said in a release Friday. The key to the stolen car was found on his body after the shooting.
