Charles "Chuck" Joseph Parrino Jr.

CARLINVILLE — A rural Bunker Hill man faces multiple felony charges in the death of a St. Louis man Saturday. Jerald Stilts, 57, was charged Monday in the shooting death of Charles "Chuck" Joseph Parrino Jr., 45. Stilts was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, armed violence and aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, aggravated domestic battery, concealment of a homicidal death, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and obstruction of justice and unlawful restraint. A coworker of Parrino told The Telegraph on Monday that the two were in a relationship, and Parrino was ending it when the shooting occurred. Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl said his department received a call at about 1:42 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check at Stilts' home from the bar where the victim worked and had not shown up for two days. Kahl said a deputy went to the location and talked to Stilts, and "realized it was a homicide." Stilts was being held at the Macoupin County Jail. Matt Bosley, a bartender at Soulard Bastille, a gay bar in the Soulard neighborhood where Parrino worked as a bartender, described him as "an awesome guy." "Everybody loved him," Bosley said of Parrino. "When he didn't show up for work (Friday), we knew something was wrong because he was always a half hour early. He was never late." Bosley said they looked around the neighborhood for his car that night but became more concerned when they had not heard from him by Saturday.
