D'mar Matlock

A 27-year-old Spanish Lake man was charged in connection with a deadly shooting last week at the Home Depot on New Halls Ferry Road. Derione Mason got into a fight in the store on Wednesday after the victim struck Mason in the face, according to charges filed Thursday. Mason then shot the victim multiple times, and after the victim fell, Mason stood over him and shot him again multiple times. Mason then took the victim's pistol and fled. Surveillance video recorded the incident. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities identified the victim as D'mar Matlock. Police said they found Matlock's gun in Mason's vehicle when they arrested Mason. St. Louis County prosecutors charged Mason with stealing a firearm. The charges were later amended and now include voluntary manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence. Mason lives in the 1200 block of Reale Avenue in unincorporated St. Louis County.
