Joshua Ellison

A St. Charles teen got in a fight with his mother and a man his mother had met at a bar, then stabbed the man multiple times with a kitchen knife, killing him, newly released court documents say. Investigators say that Cash Green, 17 then, stabbed 47-year-old Joshua Ellison multiple times with a large kitchen knife after the two men had a fight, according to the newly-released documents. Ellison had met Green's mother at an unnamed bar sometime on Oct. 29, the documents say. Later that night, the pair were "hanging out in the garage" at the Green family home in the 1500 block of Rutgers Lane when Green walked into the room and confronted his mother. The documents say Green was "verbally accosting" his mother, but do not say what spurred it. Green's mother is not named. Police say that Ellison attempted to intervene between them and the two men shoved each other. Green then left the garage and went back to his room. His mother followed a short time later. There she heard Green on a phone call threatening to hurt Ellison. Some time later, Green walked downstairs, grabbed the knife and began stabbing Ellison. Court records say Ellison was stabbed multiple times. Ellison initially survived the attack, left Green's home, got into his truck and drove to his nearby residence, near the Interstate 70 and Highway 94 interchange in St. Charles. Police discovered his body inside his truck around 2 a.m. on Oct. 30. Green, 18, was charged as an adult with second-degree murder in February 2026.
