Mercedes Floyd

University City police found Mercedes Floyd, 33, shot several times in the 6600 block of Etzel Drive. Another person at the scene was found shot, but was taken to a hospital and survived. Investigators say cell phone records show the person who was shot had texted with Ra'Niyah Smith, 22, who wanted to buy Percocet. They arranged to meet in the 6600 block of Etzel Avenue, police said. Jayla Moore, 21, picked up Smith, Dawneeyale Foster, 25, and two other people and drove them to the drug deal, police wrote in court documents. When they arrived, Floyd and the other shooting victim were waiting for them. The two stood outside of the car, which had the five people in it, as one of the unnamed men inside the car handed money to Floyd, police say. At about that time, Foster got out of the car and approached Floyd and the other person, police said. Multiple gunshots were fired, and Foster got back in the car. Video surveillance shows the car driving away from the scene while gunshots continued to be fired from the vehicle, police wrote in court documents. The person who was shot but survived knew Smith and provided police with her social media information. Smith was also identified by the shooting victim in a photo lineup. Foster and Smith were both charged with second-degree murder. Moore was charged with attempted possession of a controlled substance. Floyd lived in the same block where the shooting occurred, according to the St. Louis Medical Examiner's Office.
