A man was shot and killed early Saturday after Franklin County sheriff's deputies responded to a home just north of Pacific, authorities said. Deputies were called at around 1:12 a.m. to a report of a suicidal person in the 1100 block of Highway OO, Sheriff Steven Pelton said in a statement. While they were on their way, the 911 caller said they heard a gunshot in the basement of the home. After arriving, deputies contacted a woman who was at the home and then searched the house and the area immediately surrounding it, Pelton said. While that was happening, deputies encountered a 60-year-old man who was shot and killed. Pelton's statement does not say whether officers shot him or outline the circumstances that led to his death. No officers were injured. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is now investigating the shooting, Pelton said.
