Raykel Thompson

A woman found shot in her vehicle last weekend in the Carr Square neighborhood has died at a hospital, police said Tuesday. Raykel Thompson, 25, was shot early Saturday near her home in the 1600 block of Biddle Street. St. Louis police found Thompson in the driver's seat of a vehicle that was resting against a fire hydrant. Officers went to the scene after getting an alert from the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system about 1 a.m. Saturday. Thompson, who lived in the 1600 block of Biddle Street, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. She died Monday. Ervin Lee Cage Jr., 18, is charged with first-degree murder. Cage was in the neighborhood to meet with another woman, and when that woman didn't allow him in her home, he stayed in the neighborhood with a firearm for nearly an hour, according to St. Louis police Detective Justin Robben. Thompson was leaving her mother's house on Biddle Street when she drove past Cage, and he fired more than 10 shots at her vehicle, fatally injuring her.
