Stanley Scott

Stanley Scott, 32, died at a hospital after being shot about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of Gasconade Street. Scott was shot in the street as many as six times, St. Louis police Officer Tina Williams said in court papers. A fundraiser set up by Scott's family said he was the father of three sons and two daughters. The organizer, Briona Zimmerman, wrote that Scott "was a good dude who liked to have a good time. He was always a happy person. He was a good friend if he considered you Family." Scott lived on Bravo Drive in north St. Louis County, according to the St. Louis medical examiner's office. Donald Gregory Jones, 51, surrendered to police on Monday and confessed to shooting the victim and ditching the firearm, according to court records. Williams said Jones was at the home on Gasconade following a balloon release and vigil in honor a person who died recently. The person being memorialized at the vigil was not identified in court records. Prosecutors on Tuesday charged Jones with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. A judge ordered that Jones be held in jail without bond. Jones was identified as the gunman by several people in the home, including two who picked him out of a photo lineup, Williams said. Several witnesses told police they heard shots fired outside the home. The ShotSpotter gunshot-detection system confirmed the sound was gunfire, police said. Officers found Scott inside the home with witnesses trying to help him. Authorities have not released a possible motive for the killing.
