Charles E. Tiller, 38, of Madison, was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m. in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, according to Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. Tiller had been shot in the chest, Dye said. Officials said that they have a suspect, but that person is not in custody. The shooter and the victim knew each other, officials said. The shooting occurred outside at 6810 State St., at a repast, which is a gathering of friends and family after a funeral, according to the Illinois State Patrol. Three others were injured. Da Beno Nite Club has been operating at 6830 State St. But a woman who answered the phone Saturday and identified herself as the owner said it’s closed while transitioning into a different business. The woman said the shooting occurred outside the fence around her property, possibly on the street or in a nearby parking lot.
