Chauncia Meekins

Chauncia Meekins, 32, of Bellefontaine Neighbors, was shot at a drive-thru window of a Steak 'n Shake in north St. Louis County after a customer complained she didn't get a second order of onion rings, the victim's mother said. She had worked at the restaurant for about four months, said her mother, Tamela Washington. Washington said the store manager told her eight shots were fired after a woman complained about the onion rings. "Who kills somebody over onion rings?" Washington said. "That don't make sense to me. You've got to be the most craziest, delusional person I've ever known." Meekins was shot twice in the torso. A co-worker was shot in the hand and taken to the hospital. The shooting was about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the restaurant at 11035 Bellefontaine Road, in the Spanish Lake area of North County. St. Louis County police did not release a description of the killer. They also did not say what the customer and employees argued about. It happened about a half-hour before closing time. Washington said her daughter was single and had no children. She worked two jobs, at Steak 'n Shake and Family Dollar. "My baby was so loving, caring, sweet-hearted fun person that likes to party," said Washington, who lives in Riverview. "She didn't bother nobody."
