Kiyomi Parker

Police responded to a home in the 8400 block of North Broadway, and found Kiyomi Parker, a 7-month-old girl, with a gunshot wound. Police rushed Kiyomi to a police SUV and tried to save her life, closing down roads as they sped to the hospital. The girl died after they arrived, police said. The baby's father, Ca'Marion Pawnell, 19, of East St. Louis, with second-degree murder and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the shooting death of his daughter, Kiyomi Parker. His murder charge was dismissed in July after a grand jury didn't indict him. A 10-year-old boy was charged with first-degree murder. Authorities said in charging documents that a 7-year-old child was also present in the home. Police said the 10-year-old boy took a gun that Pawnell stored under a mattress and shot Kiyomi. The boy allegedly told police that he had taken the gun out before. Pawnell told police the gun was his and that he had stored it under the mattress, charging documents say. Authorities did not name the boy because he is charged in juvenile court. Details of the charges against the 10-year-old would only become public if he is charged in adult court. Under Missouri law, only juveniles older than 12 can be certified to stand trial as adults. It's not clear what relationship Pawnell had with the other children in the house. Charging documents show Pawnell living in the 1100 block of St. Rose Lane in East St. Louis.
