Several people were arguing outside the Dragon Smoke Shop. The argument escalated and a gunfight broke out, killing two and injuring at least three. Liban Yusuf, 30, and Jaquan Connor, 21, were killed following an argument at the Dragon Smoke Shop in the 1400 block of North 13th Street. The chaotic scene unfolded around 3:30 p.m. Saturday when a fight erupted outside the store. Multiple people pulled out weapons, authorities say. During the fight, Connor shot at least two men, ages 27 and 28. Yusuf then started chasing Connor and hit him in the legs, court records and police say. A short distance later, Connor fell to the ground. He threw his gun away and tried to crawl to a vehicle, court records say. "He threw his gun and tried to crawl to a nearby vehicle," an officer wrote. As he was on the ground, Luhizo Maalin, an employee at the Smoke Shop, ran out of the shop and shot Connor multiple times, according to the officer. Maalin then went back into the store but came out at least two other times to shoot the man on the ground, police said. Surveillance footage captured the shooting. Maalin stayed at the scene where he was arrested. Prosecutors then charged him with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Yusuf and Connor died at the scene. Another man, a 27-year-old, was taken to the hospital. Police said Tuesday he was in critical condition but had deteriorated from being stable to unstable. Two other men — ages 28 and 29 — were also shot and driven separately to the hospital. They were in critical condition but stable.
