Ross Harris

A man was charged with murder after police say he admitted shooting his ex-boyfriend and dumping the body in the Mississippi River. The body of the missing man, Ross Harris, has not been recovered. Prosecutors charged Ahmad Kashaun Jackson with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and abandonment of a corpse. Court documents allege the murder happened April 4 at 1308 Gravois Avenue. Judge Brooke Hurst ordered Jackson be held in jail without bond. Jackson, 27, lives in the 11800 block of Galba Drive in unincorporated St. Louis County. Harris, 24, was last seen leaving his apartment in Soulard on April 4. His family members reported him missing. Relatives provided police with a voicemail sent by Jackson before the disappearance in which Jackson threatened to kill Harris and leave his body unrecognizable, court records say. Police obtained a search warrant for data from Jackson's cell phone. They traced his movements and say he bought a gun in St. Charles and drove to the apartment where Harris lived. Messages found on Harris' phone included threats from Jackson, police say, where Jackson accused Harris of cheating on him. On Tuesday, police executed a search warrant at Jackson's home and found blood throughout the house and cleaning supplies, St. Louis police Officer Kyle Olsen said in court papers. When detectives questioned him, Jackson gave several versions of what happened, Olsen said, and eventually admitted that he bought a gun, shot Harris and dumped his body in the river.
