Ryan Woods, 40, was killed by a police officer returning fire during a shootout at Woods's home in the 200 block of Tapestry Drive. The shootout followed a standoff that began when officers were called to the house about 2:14 p.m. for a welfare check. Officers arriving at the scene heard gunshots and found Woods had barricaded himself inside his home, firing out into the block, police said. At least one neighboring house was hit by gunfire. Police closed off the area, evacuated residents of neighboring houses and used a loudspeaker to try to convince Woods to surrender. One officer eventually returned fire and shot into Woods' house, police said. Police later entered the home and found him dead at the scene.
