The lovely glass-box restaurant space in downtown’s Citygarden sculpture park has struggled to find an appropriate tenant, but 2014 newcomer Death in the Afternoon seems to be an excellent fit. The team behind the acclaimed members-only restaurant Blood & Sand has crafted a menu that gives an upscale chef’s touch to classic lunch fare (salads, sandwiches, a burger) and global dishes (falafel, ramen, steamed buns) alike. Want to experience the full range of flavors in one meal? Begin with the excellent Asian-eggplant dip, follow with the hot-pastrami sandwich and then treat yourself to the cotton candy du jour.
