Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant

Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant’s attempt at a fast-casual spinoff, Moya Grill, lasted only one year in the Delmar Loop. (The location, on a Loop side street rather than Delmar itself, wasn’t exactly ideal.) I hope during its brief run it introduced at least some new diners to Meskerem — and if you’re among those who have yet to experience its traditional Ethiopian cuisine, then get yourself to its original location on the main South Grand drag. Chicken wat or sauteed, berbere-spiced beef tibs make for an excellent introduction, and Meskerem is a rare restaurant that caters to both vegetarians (numerous entrees) and curious carnivores (the fiery raw-beef dish kitfo).

Hours: Lunch and dinner daily

Opened: 2007

Must order: Tibs wat ($10.95)
