Taqueria Durango

If Taqueria Durango served nothing but its torta ahogada, it would still belong on this list. The sandwich contains only carnitas and onion — though I should really put quotes around that only because it is a big sandwich, there is a lot of both ingredients, and the carnitas is excellent. The entire sandwich is then drowned in a spicy chile sauce. You can’t eat it with your hands, and even if you think there is too much bread, you’ll find yourself using it to sop up as much of the sauce as you can. Taqueria Durango does serve more than its torta ahogada. Its selection of tacos might be the most varied and is certainly among the most delicious in town.
