Bootheel boost

President Donald Trump’s biggest gains in Missouri between 2016 and 2020 came in Pemiscot County. In 2016, he won the more racially diverse southeastern counties by much smaller vote margins than he did elsewhere in rural Missouri. Four years later, he boosted his vote percentage there, while Biden underperformed Clinton, resulting in an 11-point increase in vote margin in Pemiscot.

Notes: The U.S. Census allows respondents to choose multiple races. The counts for the "white," "Black", and "Asian" categories shown on this map reflect people who selected only those single races. "Other" includes those who selected "American Indian and Alaska Native alone," "Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander alone," or "Some other race alone." People of Hispanic origin may be of any race. Vote margin is the difference in vote percentages of the leading candidate and the second-place opponent. On this map, a negative value for vote margin indicates Biden/Clinton was the leading candidate in that county.
