Deanthony Smith

Deanthony Smith, 46, was shot in the lower leg on Nov. 1 in the 1400 block of Market Street downtown. He died more than three weeks later, on Nov. 26. The medical examiner determined that he died of complications from the wound. Derrick Rodgers, 32, was later charged with first-degree murder in the case. Rodgers, of the 3600 block of Lindell Boulevard, was arrested by the police department's Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team. Police said he was in possession of two handguns and a shotgun when he was arrested. Rodgers was also charged with three counts of illegal possession of a firearm and armed criminal action.
