Quentin Berry was shot and killed on Friday in south St. Louis. Berry, 23, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the hospital, police said Saturday. Police later charged Joshua Conley, 21, with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. According to court documents, surveillance video showed a Saturn Vue with tinted windows and a missing front grill and bumper pulled up on the scene in the 2200 block of Keokuk Street in the Marine Villa neighborhood around 5:20 p.m. Friday. A man in a yellow sweatshirt got out of the passenger's seat and then ran back to the SUV after shots were fired, according to a probable cause statement. Someone privately drove Berry to the now-closed South City Hospital. By the time emergency workers arrived there, he was not conscious or breathing. He was then taken to another hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. At the scene on Keokuk, officers found shell casings from a 9 millimeter pistol. The following day, officers spotted the Saturn SUV and pursued it. The driver stopped at a McDonald's on Jefferson Avenue, and the driver and Conley got out and ran. Officers found a 9 millimeter pistol in a backpack that Conley was wearing, court documents say. The driver of the Saturn told police that he was with Conley on the night of the shooting. Conley received a call from a woman who said there was some sort of argument. The woman told Conley to come to the 2200 block of Keokuk. He got out of the car, shots were fired, then he got back into the car, the driver told police. Conley is being held in the St. Louis jail without bond.
