ST. LOUIS — A woman dropped off near downtown St. Louis with wounds from an apparent beating has died, police said Wednesday. Cherish Lappin, 35, of St. Louis, died Feb. 14, eight days after she was picked up by someone and taken to a hospital with traumatic injuries and severe cuts throughout her body, police said. Detectives were unable to speak with Lappin before her death because of her condition. Police said they don't know who picked up Lappin around midnight on Feb. 6 at 14th Street and Cass Avenue, in the city's Carr Square Neighborhood, and dropped her off at a hospital, police spokeswoman Evita Caldwell said Wednesday. The St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to confirm Lappin's official cause of death.
