St. Louis County officials issued charges Sunday against the mother of a 4-year-old Jennings girl who died Saturday after a drug overdose in a home where capsules of suspected heroin were found. Christina Huntspon, 32, is facing felony charges for the endangerment and death of her child and is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. Huntspon’s daughter was found unresponsive Saturday evening at a home in the 9100 block of Cozens Avenue, with signs that she had experienced a drug overdose, according to a Sunday news release from the St. Louis County Police Department. The child was pronounced dead at a local hospital just before 7:30 p.m. “Several capsules of suspected heroin” were found in the home, while Huntspon admitted to having a severe drug addiction and using heroin in the residence that morning, according to a probable cause statement about the incident. She also admitted that “her addiction likely caused the death of her daughter and knew of no other person who would have introduced drugs into the home,” the statement said. Police added that the child’s father — who showed no signs of drug use — had legal custody of her due to her mother’s “extensive drug use” and that the child was born under the influence of a controlled substance.
