Christopher Dixon, 16, was killed in a home in the 4000 block of Avery Lane just before 6 p.m. Friday, July 31. Police found two boys suffering from gunshot wounds. Christopher died, and the condition of the other boy was not released. He is the teen now charged in the case in juvenile court. John O'Sullivan, a spokesman for the St. Louis County Family Court, said a 17-year-old boy is facing charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. Authorities have not released the name of the boy charged because he is a juvenile. Christopher's mother, Leann Hutchins, said her son was going to be junior at Pattonville High School in the fall. He worked at Waffle House in Bridgeton and was starting a new job at a fast-food restaurant. "He was a very chill kid," said Hutchins, 35. "He was a mama's boy. He liked to be at home. He loved church and reading the Bible." Christopher was baptized when he was 5, then when his younger brother was going to be baptized, Christopher did it again so he could be next to his brother, Hutchins said. She said her son had saved money for back-to-school shopping. On the day he died, "he was just going to what he thought of as a friend's house," said Hutchins, 35. "And he was being set up to be robbed." Hutchins said a detective told her the suspect who shot her son then shot himself three times "because he didn't want to go back to juvenile" detention. Police wouldn't confirm that account or share any other details Monday about the shooting. In addition to his younger brother, who is 11, Christopher is survived by an older sister, who is heading to college soon. "They are devastated," Hutchins said. "They were very, very close."
