More than 145 specialty shops, galleries, restaurants and entertainment venues call the Loop along Delmar Boulevard home. The loop is named for streetcars that came west more than 100 years ago and “looped around” before making connections. Tests started this fall for a new electric trolley. As you walk, look down. You’re stepping on more than 140 brass stars on the St. Louis Walk of Fame, which honors local legends like Bob Costas, Susan Blow, Miles Davis and Whitey Herzog. Be sure to visit sculptor Harry Weber’s eight-foot bronze statue of Chuck Berry, the Father of Rock and Roll who died this spring.

Things to do
Holiday events
The Delmar Loop hosts several different events over the holidays, including Small Business Saturday on Nov. 25, the Great Gift Hunt followed by a Christmas tree lighting and holiday carols on Dec. 2, and an Ugly Sweater Pub Crawl with partial proceeds to benefit local charities on Dec. 2. They also host a Menorah Lighting (date TBD) and Kwanzaa Celebration (Dec. 30).
Stores and venues to check out
Visit Vintage Vinyl at 6610 Delmar Boulevard for hard-to-find music; a musician is usually playing his own tunes on the sidewalk outside. Stop in United Provisions at 6241 Delmar Boulevard for foods from around the globe, and slurp up some ramen at the attached cafe. Visit the Peacock Loop Diner at 6261 Delmar or Blueberry Hill at 6504 Delmar for its eclectic décor if not their burgers.
Recycle the loop
The Delmar Loop is a Green Dining District, which means 25 percent of the local dining establishments recycle, don’t use styrofoam to-go containers, conserve water and try to buy supplies locally when they can.
Grab a bite
If you’re looking for a place to eat, seven of Post-Dispatch restaurant critic Ian Froeb’s STL 100 restaurant picks are here: Publico, Corner 17, Salt + Smoke, Mission Taco Joint, Pi Pizzeria and Fork & Stix.
