Demetrius Rush, 29, was shot and killed on Oakwood Avenue in Pine Lawn on March 2. Rush' wife told police that a 17-year-old was living with their family when the shooting happened. That teenager was charged with Rush's death and also in the killing of Shannon O'Brien, who was caught in the crossfire of a shootout. O'Brien was a Lyft driver who took several teens to an apartment complex where they planned to shoot other teenagers on Jan. 30. The teen is one of several others charged in connection with O'Brien's death. During a hearing for the teenager, a family member said Rush was musically talented, playful, fiercely protective and generous. "His passing has left an immeasurable void in his family, friends and community," she said.
